EMILY THAMM-AVSYUK

about emily

Emily Thamm-Avsyuk is a NYC based professional dancer, singer, actress, and model with a passion for telling stories through movement and music. She is an extremely unique performer, combining a technical ballet background with a sultry jazz influence to create a mysterious style that is all her own. Some of Emily’s most recent regional credits include Lila Dixon in Holiday Inn (LaComedia Dinner Theatre), Phyllis Dale/u/s Dorothy Brock and Maggie Jones in 42nd Street (Clear Space Theatre Company), Frenchie/Dance Captain in Cabaret (Sol Theatre Company), Graziella in West Side Story (La Comedia Dinner Theatre), Onstage Swing/Dance Captain in The Happy Elf (The Argyle Theatre), and Ensemble/Dance Captain in Something Rotten! (The Gallery Players Theatre). Emily also made her Off-Broadway debut this past fall in Sleepy Hollow The Musical at The Players Theatre.

Emily was born and raised in Long Island, NY and grew up training extensively in classical ballet, the competition/convention scene, and musical theatre. Emily frequently made trips into NYC to take class at Broadway Dance Center and to see Broadway shows, and quickly fell in love with the magic of Broadway. She knew that one day she would call the city her home and would be performing on the very stages she was in awe of as a young girl.

Emily graduated from Hofstra University with a BA in Dance Performance, and immediately after graduation, moved to NYC and was invited to be a part of the Verdon-Fosse Legacy’s Inaugural Professional Training Program. Being trusted with some of the most iconic choreography in the American musical theatre canon was an honor that Emily will always hold on to. Shortly after working with the Verdon-Fosse Legacy, Emily attended Broadway Dance Center’s Professional Semester, where she was a Theatre concentration. Emily’s time in the Professional Semester allowed her to make lasting connections with NYC choreographers, such as Lizz Picini, Richard Hinds, and Shannon Lewis, to name a few. Since moving to NY, Emily has performed in pieces choreographed by Al Blackstone, Josh Assor, Christine Cornish Smith, Oren Korenblum, Shelly Hutchinson, Kelcey Matheny, and Mark Broomfield.

Outside of dance, Emily is also extensively trained in voice and acting, and has appeared in multiple TV shows, including The Gilded Age (HBO), The Time Traveler’s Wife (HBO) and Evil (Paramount Plus). Emily has been trained vocally by Nicky Phillips and Clinton Sherwood, and in acting by Josh Walden, Ben Vereen, David Perlow and Christopher Gurr.

When Emily isn’t performing, taking class, or auditioning, she can be found pre pro-ing with choreographers such as Elyn Collier and Michael McCrary or spending time at home on the Upper West Side with her husband Greg and their puppies Oakley and Ralphie, hiking, or obsessing over all things spooky and Halloween.
